- Tioga Road and the Eastern Sierra crossing are normally in season, while Death Valley requires a paved-road, vehicle-based heat plan. Exact pass, fire, flood and temperature conditions can invalidate the route and must be rechecked.

- Check Death Valley roads, forecast and heat guidance and carry emergency water.
Stay on confirmed-open paved roads, carry at least one gallon of water per person per day plus vehicle-emergency supplies, remain close to air conditioning in heat and do not hike at lower elevations when it is hot.
