Curate from real sources

Places come from Wikivoyage's human-written travel guides — names, coordinates, hours, prices — cross-checked against OpenStreetMap. Every record keeps its source, and you can see it: the ⓘ next to any stop shows where it came from.

Measure real travel times

Drive legs use road-routed times precomputed with OSRM over OpenStreetMap — not straight-line guesses. Rail and ferry legs use timetable-style estimates and are labeled as such in the plan.

Simulate every day

Each day is packed against the clock: transit + visit durations + opening hours + seasonal daylight, tuned to your month and pace. A stop that doesn't fit the day doesn't go in the day.

Admit the gaps

Where data is thin — a missing hours field, a facet with no matches on a route — the itinerary says so instead of papering over it. Data honesty is the product.

Write the words ourselves

Source guides are used for facts — names, addresses, hours — never for prose. Every description is written fresh, and it can only ever attach to a place already in the catalog: a description for somewhere that doesn't exist is discarded, not printed.

Refuse rather than pad

If a route can't fill the days you asked for, it builds the days it genuinely can and tells you why it's fewer. No invented stops, no half-empty afternoons dressed up as an itinerary.

What every day is checked against

Every day carries the daylight figure for the town you sleep in that night, and a short winter day is shortened to match rather than planned as if it were June. Opening hours, seasonal closures and overnight options are checked too, wherever the source data carries them — and where it doesn't, the plan says so rather than guessing.

We'd rather refuse than lie.

Ask for the Iceland Ring Road in 4 days in December and Odycairn won't hand you a fantasy — it tells you the loop doesn't fit December daylight, shows the closest plan that does, and says what to cut. If a trip is impossible, that's the answer you'll get.
