The streets of Las Cruces and Mesilla lead to White Sands' pale dunes, then the space and mountain history of Alamogordo and Cloudcroft before Carlsbad Caverns takes you underground. This road journey needs a confirmed cavern entry slot and current checks on missile-test closures, heat and mountain roads; specialist cave tours are separate.
