Forget the package-holiday postcard: Mallorca's north is a limestone sierra falling into peacock-blue coves, threaded by the hairpins cyclists dream about. Ride the 1912 wooden train over the mountains to Sóller, corkscrew down Sa Calobra, and stand on Cap de Formentor at sunset. Chopin wintered here and complained about the rain; he was unlucky.

Mallorca: Palma & the Tramuntana is a 130 km one-way journey (self-drive). It works best as 3–5 days; the plan below is the 4-day version for May, built from 112 verified places, with real road-routed transit times, opening hours and daylight checked.

When to go

Best months: April, May, June, July, August, September, October

The Tramuntana hairpins belong to you rather than the tour buses, almond and orange blossom scent the valleys, and the sea stays swimmable into October.
