Carry one road vehicle from Barra to Lewis: cross to Eriskay, follow the causeways through the Uists, cross the Sound of Harris from Berneray to Leverburgh and continue north through Harris. Vatersay, Uist heritage, Luskentyre and the Calanais stones form the sightseeing spine; offshore islands and long hikes remain optional excursions.
