Begin in Maun, gateway to the Okavango Delta, then cross the open country around Nata before reaching Kasane on the Chobe River. The road journey links three very different landscapes; a mokoro trip, river cruise and game drive are experiences to arrange in advance with local operators.

When to go

Best months: May, June, July, August, September

The reviewed baseline uses the drier road season, when Okavango floodwater and Chobe River wildlife viewing can be strong. Water levels, migrations and every sighting still vary, and the Nata pans may be dry.
